Electric Machine Models: Generator Protection & Control Testing

Learn about real-time simulation with experts from RTDS Technologies

Available On Demand

This webinar is now over and available free on-demand. To access this webinar after it has aired, please register below and view at your convenience.

What to Expect

Join us for a free webinar on the state of real-time electromagnetic transient (EMT) electric machine models, including a demonstration in the RSCAD software. The RTDS Simulator and RSCAD are used by manufacturers, utilities, and research institutions for the hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing of generator protection and control systems. HIL testing is the most comprehensive way to demonstrate operation, debug and tune, familiarize personnel, and generally mitigate risks of generator protection and control in the safety of the laboratory environment.

  • Take a detailed look at the algorithms and features of machine models available for the RTDS Simulator
  • Learn the benefits of real-time electromagnetic transient simulation and HIL testing for generator applications
  • Watch a software demonstration of generator protection and control dynamics in real time via RSCAD screenshare
  • Q&A with an expert in electric machine modelling

Note: This webinar does not include a detailed introduction to electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation or real-time operation. To learn more about these topics, listeners should watch this short video before joining.

Speakers

Ali Dehkordi, Ph.D., P.Eng.
R&D Supervisor, Power System Modeling with RTDS Technologies

Bio: Ali Dehkordi received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran and Ph.D. degree from the University of Manitoba, Canada in 1999, 2002 and 2010 respectively.

Between 1998 and 2002, he worked on various industrial projects including substation and transformer maintenance as well as power quality projects. His research interests are on the modeling of power system and power electronic components and in particular electric machines for Electromagnetic Transient Programs and Real Time Digital Simulation, the area that he has been working on for over 17 years.

Dr. Dehkordi is a recipient of Dennis Woodford Prize, for “the most outstanding graduate thesis dealing with power system modeling and simulation”. He is currently employed by RTDS Technologies Inc., located in Winnipeg, Canada. He is a senior member of IEEE.
