RSCAD FX 2.6 Release

RSCAD FX 2.6 is available – here are the key highlights

RTDS Technologies is proud to announce the release of RSCAD FX 2.6, the latest version of our industry-leading real-time simulation software for the RTDS Simulator. This update brings exciting new features and expanded capabilities designed to support the evolving needs of our users.

Here are some key highlights of RSCAD FX 2.6. To download the software and access the full Release Notes, where all updates and bug fixes are listed in detail, visit our User Portal.

MultiPlot is back

Legacy users might remember our MultiPlot application for post-processing of simulation data. RSCAD FX 2.6 includes a brand new, revamped version of the MultiPlot tool, giving users more options for simulation data visualization and analysis. Users can load .csv or COMTRADE simulation data. Some statistical and harmonic signal analysis is also possible within the module.

MODBUS client support and all-new SCADA Configurator

RSCAD FX 2.6 comes with a new firmware for the RTDS Simulator’s GTNETx2 card which allows the RTDS Simulator to represent a MODBUS client. When the new GTNET-MODBUS V3 component is used, the RTDS Simulator can emulate a MODBUS client and interact with several external MODBUS servers/outstations over Ethernet networks. Each GTNETx2 module supports the simulation of up to 2 clients and 20 server connections – for a total of up to 4 clients and 40 server connections per GTNETx2 card if the firmware is running on both of the card’s modules.

We’ve also launched an all-new SCADA Configurator tool – a user-friendly GUI for configuring MODBUS client simulation via the new firmware. In the future, MODBUS server simulation will also be migrated to the new tool.

Note that MODBUS client simulation is only supported on the NovaCor hardware series via the GTNETx2 card.

Enhanced Spitzenberger & Spies Amplifier Interface for PHIL applications

Our new SPS amplifier interface component allows for interfacing with up to six APS-series amplifiers via a single licensed Aurora port on the RTDS Simulator. The component has embedded voltage and current sources, which improves ease of use for developing the PHIL interface. The component allows the user to send setpoints, limits, and internal resistance values to the amplifier, and receive voltage and current measurements. The component also allows the user to control the amplifier output and feedback loop via external input signals.

Runtime Table View

Based on user feedback, a new table representation of RunTime objects allows for compact and organized display of sliders, switches, meters, and more — streamlining user interaction and layout design.

New Example Cases

To help users get started quickly, RSCAD FX 2.6 includes new example cases demonstrating:

  • Artificial Load Flow
  • Scheduler Component
  • Automatic Generation Control (AGC)

These cases provide practical insights into advanced simulation techniques and control strategies.
