Webinar & Demo

Date: Wednesday, February 21, 2024
Time: 9:00 AM (GMT-06:00) Central Time - Chicago
Duration: 60 minutes

Real-time electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation of grid-forming IBRs allows for efficient and comprehensive validation of control strategy, as well as hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing of control hardware. Join us for this free webinar from RTDS Technologies, where we’ll discuss how the RTDS Simulator can be used for grid-forming IBRs modelling, simulation, and testing, including exciting new sample cases developed in RSCAD FX.

What to expect:

  • An overview of the benefits of real-time simulation for control simulation and testing
  • A look at grid-forming IBR sample simulation cases in the RSCAD FX software, including droop control, virtual synchronous generator, and synchronverter examples
  • Q&A with an RTDS Technologies expert

Note: This webinar does not include a detailed introduction to electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation or real-time operation. To learn more about these topics, listeners should watch this short video before joining.

Webinar description

Join us for a free webinar on real-time simulation of grid-forming inverter-based resources (IBRs) with the RTDS Simulator. With the increasingly high penetration of power electronic devices in power systems, their secure and reliable operation alongside other power system components – and through contingency scenarios – becomes critical. Grid-forming control, an increasingly important part of grid modernization, is aimed at enabling inverter-based resources to participate in maintaining the system voltage and frequency, behaving as controllable voltage sources that can work with other active power sources autonomously. Features of grid-forming control include the ability to self-synchronize to the grid without the needs of phase locked loop, black start operation, and weak system operation, and more.
