What to Expect

Join us for a free webinar on real-time simulation of DER protection and control with the RTDS® Simulator. After learning the basic principles of modelling distributed energy resources and their protection and control with a real-time simulator, watch a demonstration showing the simulation and testing of DER behavior based on the criteria and requirements set out in the IEEE 1547™-2018 standard. The sample case highlights the synchronization of DERs to an existing grid and the response to abnormal electric power system conditions.

The RTDS Simulator is used by leading utilities, manufacturers, research institutions, and consultants around the world for electromagnetic transient simulation and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing of power system protection and control equipment. HIL testing is the most comprehensive way to de-risk protection, control, and power equipment in the laboratory environment prior to deployment on the grid. Validating the behavior of inverter-based resources prior to deployment is an increasingly critical process for power system engineers worldwide.

What to expect:
  • An overview of the benefits and fundamental principles of real-time simulation and HIL testing
  • A look at the RSCAD modelling library for DER protection and control
  • A screen-capture demo showing a simulation example
  • Q&A with a protection and control simulation expert
Note: This webinar does not include a detailed introduction to electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation or real-time operation. To learn more about these topics, listeners should watch this short video before joining.
