REE FACILITIES TOUR
Control Center
REE's Control Center is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of Spain's electricity system. Based in Madrid, it manages and monitors electricity generation and transmission in real time, 24 hours a day. The control center continuously supervises the balance between electricity production and demand across the grid. To support this operation, it receives and processes approximately 240,000 data points in real time, enabling operators to make informed decisions and maintain system stability.
Testing and Calibration Laboratory
REE's Testing and Calibration Laboratory supports the development, validation, and performance assessment of power system technologies through four main areas of work: Qualification, Application, Replication, and Metrology.
-
Qualification – Protection and control devices are rigorously tested, primarily using RTDS real-time simulation, to verify their performance under a wide range of grid conditions before deployment on the Spanish power system.
-
Application – New solutions and improvements to existing technologies are designed, developed, and validated to support evolving power system requirements.
-
Replication – Real-world incidents can be recreated and analyzed to identify root causes and develop recommendations for improved system performance and reliability.
-
Metrology – Accredited by the Spanish National Accreditation Entity (ENAC) for electricity and energy measurements, the laboratory performs calibration, verification, and measurement assessment services using certified reference equipment.
