TUTORIAL SESSION

Introduction to Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) Simulation - Offline & Real-Time
Tutorial Session 8

Presenters:
Yi Zhang, DVP Research & Development, RTDS Technologies Inc.
Hui Ding, Technical Director Simulation & Modelling, RTDS Technologies Inc.
Yi Qi, R&D Manager Power Electronics Modelling, RTDS Technologies Inc.

Date & Time:
Sunday, January 18
3 PM - 5 PM

Abstract:
The ever-increasing penetration of power electronic based schemes in our grids like HVDC, FACTS and IBRs is driving the need for increased use of EMT simulation for both offline studies and real-time Hardware In the Loop (HIL) testing. The tutorial will provide a brief introduction to EMT simulation techniques, challenges and applications for both offline and real-time EMT simulation. The focus will be to educate the audience on EMT basics as well as presenting advanced techniques and concepts necessary support today’s and emerging power grids.

ABOUT IEEE PES International Meeting 2026

In a world where energy crises respect no borders and the need for cutting-edge power and energy technologies continues to expand, this event aims to unite communities across regions and provide an international forum for experts to network, promote, share, and discuss various global issues and developments in the field of power and energy engineering. It also provides a unique forum for international experts who are unable to attend the annual IEEE PES General Meeting held in North America and for all who are interested in exploring global collaboration through IEEE PES.
