Stop by BOOTH 10 inside the Technology and Innovation Centre (TIC Building) in Glasgow for the 2023 ACDC conference! We’ll be demonstrating new capabilities for real-time simulation—THE GTSOC.
This year, we are proud sponsors of 2023 Welcome Reception!
“ACDC is the meeting point for power transmission engineers to learn about new challenges in the energy industry, arising from environmental, regulatory, political, and social factors; and how they impact on the development of transmission schemes.” LEARN MORE HERE.
The GTSOC, a new auxiliary hardware for the RTDS Simulator, facilitates the deterministic integration of vendor control models into the real-time power system simulation while protecting intellectual property.
The GTSOC features a powerful FPGA board with multi-processor system-on-a-chip technology to support this challenging application.
Paul Forsyth
VP Marketing and Sales with RTDS Technologies
Paul received his B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Manitoba, Canada in 1988. After graduating he worked for several years in the area of reactive power compensation and HVDC at ABB Power Systems in Switzerland. He also spent two years at Haefely in both Germany and Switzerland performing system studies and later as part of the network component sales group. Since 1995, Mr. Forsyth has been employed by RTDS Technologies and over the years he has been involved in many facets of the product and company development and direction. He currently holds the title of VP – Marketing & Sales. Mr. Forsyth is a Senior Member of the IEEE and active member of CIGRE.
Yi Zhang
Chief Technology Officer & Vice President Research and Development
Yi Zhang joined RTDS Technologies Inc. in 2000, where he now serves as Vice-President R&D and Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Dr. Zhang has over 31 years of experiences working in the area of power system simulation and analysis. His expertise includes the Real Time EMT Simulation, Voltage Stability and HVDC, etc. As a principle member of the RTDS development team, Dr. Zhang developed a number of power system models on RTDS Real Time Simulator in the past over 19+ years. At present, he leads the research and development activities in RTDS Technologies. Dr. Zhang obtained Ph.D. degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and The University of Manitoba. He also serves as an adjunct professor in the University of Manitoba in Canada and in Hunan University in China, and an editor of IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery. Dr. Zhang is a registered professional engineer in the province of Manitoba, a fellow of IEEE and a fellow of Canadian Academy of Engineering.
Kati Sidwall
Technical Marketing Manager with RTDS Technologies Inc.
Kati Sidwall holds a B.Eng in Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering from Carleton University, Canada. She founded the annual Carleton University Green Energy Symposium in 2010. In 2012, she received the Canadian Solar Industries Association’s Emerging Leader Award. She currently serves as the Technical Marketing Manager at RTDS Technologies Inc.
Felipe Pedroso
Senior Power System Consultant with MPE
Mr Felipe Pedroso has been working as a Senior Power System Consultant at MPE since 2020. He is responsible for power system analysis studies in several topics such as EMT, dynamic stability, load flow, short circuit, grid code compliance, reactive power compensation strategy, insulation coordination, etc.
In the past few years, he has developed EMT cable, transformer, shunt reactors, and other equipment models, as well as tested OEM supplied models both in PowerFactory and PSCAD. Based on these, full systems were assembled to study several phenomena and ultimately propose optimisation, equipment ratings, insulation coordination design, philosophies of control, reactive & active power, protection, etc.
In 2020-2022 period he has worked with OWFs spanning from 120 MW to 2000 MW, comprising both AC and DC transmission technologies, in several countries and continents. He has also worked with DC offshore transmission links of up to 2800 MW, and provided trainings in renewable energy concepts, modelling, and operation. In this role he is responsible for combining data analysis and scripting to the power system field of expertise, allowing the assessment of results to be based on a bulk number of inputs and generating statistical analyses.
Before joining MPE, from 2014 to 2020, he worked for the Brazilian representative of DIgSILENT and other Brazilian companies in the same field, having performed an extensive number of successful projects for industrial, transmission, and generation sites. He was also responsible for conducting consulting work for major HVDC transmission lines in Brazil, using PSCAD and PowerFactory.
Felipe holds a BsC degree in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic School of the University of Sao Paulo (USP), in Brazil, and a MsC in Power Systems – HVDC systems from the same university. Along with his native tongue of Portuguese, he is fluent in English and Spanish.
