The GPC is a powerful computational unit which can be used for solving the overall network solution as well as auxiliary components. The GPC contains two IBM PowerPC 750GX RISC processors each operating at 1 GHz. The GPC is code compatible with the RPC and can simulate all components currently available for the RPC card.
The GPC can be operated in a rack together with RPC and/or 3PC cards.
Small Timestep VSC Simulation
In addition to the network solution and the simulation of standard components, the GPC card can also be used to provide small timestep (< 2 µs) simulations of Voltage Source Converters (VSC).
Input/Output Capabilities
The GPC includes 24 on-board 12-bit digital to analogue converters. In addition, two Giga Transceiver (GT) optical ports are available for the connection of peripheral I/O. The software and hardware have been designed so the firing pulse input, read every small timestep (< 2 µs), can be used in the VSC algorithm and the effect considered in the update of the analogue output with a maximum latency of 3 µs!
